After all the stress of exams most of us want nothing more than to celebrate it finally being over! With that in mind, we rustled up a cheeky list of cocktails you can make on a budget, the perfect pre-drinks that will have you whining like Boris at number 10 in no time…

(If you don’t own a cocktail shaker you can use a protein shaker or an old jam jar as an alternative – thank us later)

1. Mojito

Everyone knows the classic mojito, here’s a twist on it, a smooth go-to for starting the pres.

  • Mint leaves
  • Lemonade/Ginger Ale (Instead of Soda and Syrup)
  • Rum
  • Lime

Simply muddle some mint leaves with some lime in the bottom of a glass, then fill it with ice cubes and add around 40ml of rum, then just fill the rest with Ginger Ale or Lemonade and voila!

2. Tequila Sunrise

  • 1 shot Tequilla
  • 2 shots Orange juice
  • 0.5 Shots Cranberry juice / Grenadine
  • Orange slices & Cherries to garnish *optional*

Fill a tall glass with ice cubes, then pour in the tequila and orange juice in turn. Stir the orange juice and tequila then carefully pour the Grenadine/Cranberry juice into the center. All being well, it should sink and then gradually rise and mix with the other ingredients. Finally garnish it with an orange slice on the rim of the glass and a cherry floating inside and enjoy!

3. Cuba Libre

Here’s a super simple one with a great history. Inspired by and created after the Cuban revolution, Cuba Libre even dates way back to when Coca Cola still counted cocaine on its ingredients list so although you might not get the original punch, it’s still a kicker!

  • Cola
  • Lime
  • Rum (gold is best)

For this one you’ll need to cut up and squeeze the lime into the glass first then add 2-3 ice cubes, followed by the rum then followed by a shell from one of the lime wedges you squeezed.

Finally fill it with Cola and stir, terminada!

4. Espresso Martini

Espresso Martini

Here’s one for all the coffee lovers with a bit of a sweet tooth! If you don’t have simple syrup then begin by bringing equal amounts of sugar and water to a boil in a pan, mix it then let it cool completely to create your own. It’s that easy.

  • Iced coffee
  • Vodka
  • Syrup (or sugar and water)
  • Kahula or other coffee liqueur *optional*

To make this coffee cocktail you simply mix all the ingredients in a shaker with a couple of ice cubes and shake it vigorously; shaking it harder will give you more tasty foam on top. People even like to garnish/decorate it by sprinkling a few coffee beans or espresso/cocoa powder on top of the foam.

With this dangerous list of budget cocktails, you’re sure to find something to your taste which will elevate your pre-drinks. Try them all and you’ll be hanging like Bojo after a ‘work meeting.’
