5 of the cosiest pubs in Bristol

February 24, 2022

With storm Eunice giving us Shaun of the Dead vibes last week, ("Let's go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for this all to blow over”) we decided to make a list of some of the cosiest pubs hidden around Bristol.

1. HighBury Vaults - 164 St Michael's Hill, Bristol BS2 8DE

Dating back to the early 1800’s, The Highbury Vaults has preserved the very traditional interior design with leather bench seating and its original snug bar. Step outside the back of the pub and enjoy the beautiful hidden walled garden where you can sit for a brew or grab a bite to eat!

2. The Green Man - 21 Alfred Pl, Bristol BS2 8HD

If you’re ever around Kingsdown don’t miss out on The Green Man pub. It's a chill glass front pub with a huge range of ales and stouts from the local microbreweries it supports. Great for the adventurous drinker who is looking to try something new. They even have pub quiz nights on Wednesdays if you’re up for a challenge!

3. Cosies - 34 Portland Square, St Paul's, Bristol BS2 8RG

If you’re looking for a cosy spot, it goes without saying that a place called Cosies would be high on your list! When it comes to Bristol culture there’s no other place like Cosies. By day, it is an intimate wine bar and by night, an underground club pushing some of the best local music from reggae to jungle. Don’t miss out on their next night!

4. The Star and Garter - 33 Brook Rd, Montpelier, Bristol BS6 5LR

The Star and Garter is another legendary pub when it comes to Bristol’s musical history. Known as the spiritual home of Massive Attack and DJ Derek, this pub was going to go underground and be transformed into flats in 2017 when the famous DJ Roni Size helped it relaunch because he felt it was an important part of Bristol Culture. The relaunch party featured famous acts such as Dave Chapelle and Damian Marley and ever since the pub has been going strong and bringing a positive energy to Montpelier!

5. The Coronation - 18 Dean Ln, Southville, Bristol BS3 1DD

Finally, we have The Coronation. A classic pub with a great atmosphere and rustic furniture. This is the perfect place to have a cosy pint on a budget. They have some of the best prices in Bristol - you can buy a pint of anything for under £4 so it is an ideal spot for students!
